The rain storm last night was quite impressive. I sleep under a metal roof so it sounded as impressive as the lighting and thunder made it appear. About an hour into my sleep I was awakened by the rain getting blown into the dorm so I had to get up and move my bed closer to the middle of the room so I was not getting wet. Good times. Fridays at the mission are not supposed to be busy but Maureen said that it seemed busier than normal. Lots of activity downstairs at the clinic, people gathering around the doctor’s office waiting for them to start seeing people. I met a Haitian boy today that wandered upstairs to beg for money. He had surgery on his feet when he was little and tried to use that as a fuel for begging for money. It is an interesting lifestyle to see someone try to get to know you and then come to find that they are just working up enough conversation to ask you for money. I really cannot wait to go to the orphanage, where the kids just want to be loved and do not care about money. Another day done and I still wonder what I am doing here. I feel like I made a mistake by signing on for this. I hope it is just because I cannot communicate with the Haitians. Tomorrow I get to go to the orphanage so I think that will lift my spirits because it will make the days pass quicker and give me a bigger felling of fulfillment. I hope that I have access to the internet for a longer period of time at the orphanage. They only leave the generators on until 10pm (Haiti time) at the mission. Oh well I guess, it just would be nice to be able to chat with some other people at night when the children are sleeping. Speaking of sleep, it is time for me to go do that.
