I arrived at the mission base in St. Louis today after two days of traveling, which consisted of four flights, a truck ride, and a bus ride. I will be staying here until Saturday at which time I will be going to the Chalet Orphanage in Port au Paix. I met Maureen today. She has been a full time staff member since 2001. Aside from her being here there are no other Americans missionaries here. There is one other intern here right now, Erin. She is in Port de Prince for a little vacation. My luggage did not arrive with me so I am kind of roughing it for a couple of days. That’s ok though, “Eye of the Tiger.” We stopped at the Orphanage today before we came to the mission and the children there were real excited to see me. I cannot wait to start working with them again. Once I pick up the language I am afraid that I am not going to want to leave. It is amazing how different things are when there are no short term groups here. The full time interpreters go home to Port de Prince and the full timers here just enjoy the solitude and quietness of this country. I met up with Miss Pat at the hotel in Miami last night. She has been a full timer for a VERY long time. She no longer lives in St. Louis. She moved out to the far west some time ago to begin an outreach program with the Haitians out there. She is really well known amongst the Haitians. She made it very easy to come into the country. Well it is getting late and looks like it could storm any minute so I am going to hit the sack.
